# TerraPulse: Decentralized Climate & Disaster Telemetry Ledger

## Executive Summary

Anthropogenic climate change and escalating ecological volatility represent existential threats to global stability. A compounding systemic risk is the fragility, fragmentation, and vulnerability of global environmental datasets. Critical climate metrics—ranging from Arctic permafrost methane plumes and wildfire atmospheric particulate loads to corporate carbon emission audits—are predominantly stored in siloed, centralized servers prone to administrative tampering, budgetary de-platforming, and link rot.

TerraPulse resolves this vulnerability by combining Textile Hub Buckets, ThreadDB, IPFS content addressing, and Filecoin cold storage. By distributing cryptographic keys to edge sensor stations and anchoring verified telemetry onto IPFS and Filecoin, TerraPulse creates a permanent, immutable public record of Earth's vital signs.

## The Challenge: Environmental Data Integrity and Disaster Mitigation

| Threat Vector | Centralized Model Vulnerability | TerraPulse Decentralized Defense |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| **Data Manipulation** | Administrators or political entities can alter historical baseline measurements. | Ed25519 digital signatures and SHA-256 Merkle roots enforce immutable origin authenticity. |
| **Storage Eviction** | Server shutdowns or hosting fee non-payment lead to permanent loss of ecological records. | Filecoin storage deals across decentralized miners guarantee multi-year cold storage replication. |
| **Slow Disaster Dispatch** | Centralized batch pipelines delay emergency alerting for wildfires and toxic smog. | Streaming ThreadDB collections evaluate real-time thresholds, emitting instant cryptographically verifiable alerts. |
| **Proprietary Silos** | Research teams and carbon accounting firms operate isolated databases. | Textile Hub Buckets provide public IPFS gateways and standardized CIDv1 references for global interoperability. |

## Technical Architecture

TerraPulse operates across four interconnected layers:

```
[ Edge Sensor Nodes: Wildfire, Arctic, Marine, Canopy ]
│ Ed25519 Signed Telemetry
▼
[ TerraPulse Engine: Merkle Rollup & Anomaly Detection ]
│ │
▼ ▼
[ Textile Hub Buckets ] [ Textile ThreadDB ]
- Fast Hot Storage - Sensor Registry
- IPFS CIDv1 Multihash - Real-Time Alerts Feed
- AES-256-GCM Sensitive Enclaves - Cryptographic Audit Trail
│
▼
[ Filecoin Powergate Pipeline ]
- Multi-Miner Cold Deals
- Proof-of-Replication (PoRep)
- Multi-Year Historical Preservation
```

### 1. Cryptographic Origin Attestation
Each environmental monitoring station is provisioned with an Ed25519 keypair during deployment. Sensor telemetry readings (temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, CO2 ppm, CH4 ppm, PM2.5, PM10, wildfire risk score) are packed into discrete batches. The station computes an Ed25519 signature over canonical JSON, preventing spoofing or man-in-the-middle tampering.

### 2. Textile Hub Buckets (IPFS Hot Layer)
Batches are pushed to a Textile Hub Bucket (`terrapulse-climate-vault`). Textile Hub pins the data across the IPFS network, returning an RFC-compliant CIDv1 multihash (`bafkrei...`) and a public gateway URL. Researchers and emergency agencies can immediately retrieve the data using any standard IPFS client.

### 3. Textile ThreadDB (Distributed State Synchronization)
ThreadDB manages structured document collections across participants:
- `stations`: Hardware profiles, geographic coordinates, biome classifications, and active public keys.
- `telemetry_batches`: Ingestion metadata, Merkle roots, IPFS CIDs, and Filecoin deal identifiers.
- `disaster_alerts`: Real-time emergency incidents triggered by automated anomaly detection.
- `audit_trail`: Tamper-evident ledger log of all registrations, commitments, and verification events.

### 4. Filecoin Cold Storage (Multi-Year Preservation)
Through the Filecoin Powergate integration, every validated telemetry batch automatically triggers a long-term storage deal (e.g., 540 days) with decentralized Filecoin storage miners. This guarantees baseline climate measurements survive infrastructure shifts.

## Market Analysis and Adoption Potential

### Target Market
1. **Disaster Management Agencies:** Municipal fire departments, national forestry services, and environmental protection agencies requiring sub-minute wildfire precursor alerts.
2. **Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) Auditors:** Verification bodies (e.g., Verra, Gold Standard) requiring tamper-evident ground-truth sensor telemetry to certify carbon sequestration projects.
3. **Academic and Climate Research Consortia:** Universities and international bodies (IPCC) requiring immutable historical climate records spanning decades.
4. **Industrial Compliance Regulators:** Environmental compliance monitoring for chemical plants, landfills, and energy grids.

### Expected Demand
- Global climate tech investment exceeds $40 billion annually.
- Carbon credit verification demand is projected to reach $50 billion by 2030, driven by corporate net-zero pledges that demand verifiable, non-fungible proof of impact.
- Decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePIN) for environmental monitoring are expanding rapidly, requiring decentralized storage pipelines like Textile Hub.

### Distribution and Audience Reach Strategy
1. **Open Hardware Kits:** Publish open-source firmware and wiring guides for Raspberry Pi and ESP32 environmental sensors integrating the TerraPulse SDK.
2. **Community Sentry Incentive Programs:** Partner with decentralized communities to deploy wildfire sentries in high-risk zones (California, Southern Europe, Australia).
3. **Open Access Data Commons:** Expose all public telemetry through Textile Hub IPFS gateways, allowing university researchers to query datasets without paywalls.

# TerraPulse Climate Ledger

Decentralized Environmental Telemetry and Climate Verification Ledger powered by Textile Hub Buckets, ThreadDB, IPFS, and Filecoin.

## Overview

TerraPulse addresses one of humanity's existential challenges: climate change, environmental degradation, and the vulnerability of critical ecological data. Environmental sensor telemetry, greenhouse gas measurements, and disaster precursor observations frequently suffer from centralized server manipulation, political censorship, and link rot.

TerraPulse creates an open, tamper-evident, decentralized climate intelligence ledger:
1. **Station Cryptographic Identity:** Every environmental station or IoT sensor signs its telemetry using Ed25519 digital signatures.
2. **Hot Storage and Content Addressing:** Real-time telemetry batches are committed to Textile Hub Buckets, deriving immutable RFC-compliant IPFS CIDv1 multihashes.
3. **Structured Distributed Feeds:** Telemetry batches, station registrations, and disaster alerts are synchronized across Textile ThreadDB collections.
4. **Early Warning and Disaster Anomaly Engine:** Ingested telemetry is continuously analyzed against critical thresholds (wildfire danger, methane plumes, toxic smog, heatwaves), triggering alerts linked to cryptographic proof CIDs.
5. **Decentralized Cold Storage Archival:** Every dataset batch automatically schedules persistent Filecoin storage deals via the Powergate pipeline, ensuring multi-generational data preservation across decentralized storage miners.
6. **Independent Victory Auditing:** Built-in cryptographic verification validates station authenticity, Ed25519 signatures, Merkle root consistency, and on-chain Filecoin storage deal states.
