Description

Moves Mosaic components onto the border and tint tokens: controls use --cl-color-border, containers and dividers use --cl-color-border-subtle. Addresses the review feedback on outline button states and the bespoke icon frame values, while keeping the existing look.

Change Why
--cl-color-border and --cl-color-border-subtle alias neutral-alpha-300 and neutral-alpha-200 (12% and 8%, both modes) One wash ramp for borders and states instead of separate light and dark mixes. Light-mode controls get firmer (7% to 12%), containers stay close to where they were (7% to 8%), and the four existing subtle uses move from 4% to 8%. #10493 shipped 7% and 4%, and this raises them on purpose
Containers and dividers (cards, sections, tables, menus, pagination, drawer, the profile nav) move to border-subtle Inputs, selects, checkboxes, radios and outline buttons keep the stronger border so they read as interactive, and surfaces recede
The profile opened in a dialog keeps its border The border now shows over the scrim in light mode, and in dark mode it adds to the existing ring
Outline buttons fill with the surface, and hover and pressed use color-mix(in srgb, …) of the neutral or negative color into it An alpha background would replace the surface fill. The sRGB mix gives the same colors as the old overlay without the inset box-shadow trick
Banners, badges, toasts and the tag-input error use the -subtle tokens, and the neutral badge and banner use --cl-color-neutral-subtle Status chips share the same tint tokens as the rest of the system
Icon frame fill stays on neutral-alpha-100, and only the bordered variant moves to border-subtle Removes the bespoke values. A solid surface-subtle fill flipped polarity on hovered rows, so the translucent wash stays

Stacked on #10493.

Walkthrough

The neutral border tokens now use 12% and 8% washes in both modes. Mosaic components switch many borders and dividers to the subtle border token, and profile layout border widths change. Several component fills switch to subtle color tokens. Outline button backgrounds and interaction-state tints change. The changeset and related documentation are updated.

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes

Merge Risk: Low · up to 2f1ed

The remaining issues are limited to a weaker control border and inaccurate component documentation, with straightforward fixes.

hmm, not sure we want to be doing this for a hover effect. any strong reason not to use color mix to achieve this hover state?

🤖 "Switched to color-mix. Outline buttons now fill with the surface, and hover and pressed mix the neutral or negative color into it, so there’s no inset shadow hack. The colors match what the overlay produced before."

import { colorVars, radiusVars, space } from '../../tokens.stylex';

const filledWash = `light-dark(color-mix(in oklab, ${colorVars['--cl-color-neutral']} 3.5%, transparent), color-mix(in oklab, ${colorVars['--cl-color-neutral']} 4.5%, transparent))`;

was hopeful to reduce spreading different opacity usages like this through the implementations. was pat of the goal of the alphas. non-blocking if we think we need this custom here though.

🤖 "Agreed. I removed the custom values. The filled frame now uses neutral-alpha-100 and only the bordered variant changed (to border-subtle)."

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Keep the page-size select on the control border token.

user-profile-billing-history-section.view.tsx applies this style to a native <select>. The change makes it ignore --cl-color-border overrides used for other controls and gives it the weaker container border. Restore --cl-color-border here. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

The default is a bordered 40px frame; the filled treatment is a translucent wash with the same percentages as `--cl-color-surface-subtle`, so it keeps its tone over a hovered row.

Correct the filled-treatment token description.

IconFrame uses --cl-color-neutral-alpha-100, a 6% wash. --cl-color-surface-subtle mixes neutral at 3% in light mode and 4% in dark mode. Describe the actual token instead. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
