Cannot paste full file paths after copying file from file explorer on Linux #170708
Does this issue occur when all extensions are disabled?: Yes
VS Code Version: 1.74.2
OS Version: Linux x64 4.15.0-74-generic
I've had the same problem as issue #146770 which has been locked and still does not seem to have a fix at least for Linux. I cannot paste full file paths of files that are copied from the file explorer when several months ago I was able to. Only the file name is pasted rather than the full file path.
Previously, when I copied a file (CTRL + C), e.g. /home/john/Downloads/example.txt, only the filename was paste (CTRL + V) in vscode (whereas in other editors, the full path would be paste as expected).
Now, when I do CTRL + C on the file /home/john/Downloads/example.txt and paste it with CTRL + V in vscode, it pastes this string: ../../../Downloads/example.txt 🤯
I'm using Ubuntu 22.04, this is my vscode version:
I am also encountering this issue. Copying a file fro the Nemo file browser and pasting it into any other text editor pasted the file path of the file, but in VSCode it simply pastes "/".

cc Alexandru Dima (@alexdima) / Matt Bierner (@mjbvz) This seems to still be partially broken for linux despite #146770. Any suggestions?

The issue persists for me too.
When I copy-paste a file path into vscode, e.g.
/home/my_name/example.txt, the value that appears in vscode is[text](../../example.txt).themightyoarfish commentedon Jun 26, 2025
